Why Choose the Evolis Primacy 2 Double Sided ID Card Printer?
The Evolis Primacy 2 Double-Sided ID Card Printer is recommended for organisations printing around 10,000 cards per year - approximately 830 cards per month. It prints both sides automatically, saving time and removing the need to turn and reinsert cards manually.
With fast print speeds, strong reliability and professional 300dpi print quality, the Primacy 2 Double Sided model is ideal when cards include barcodes, expiry dates, safeguarding information or terms on the reverse. It’s designed for busy schools, healthcare providers, corporate offices and membership organisations where card issuing is part of daily operations.
Key Printer Features
The Evolis Primacy 2 delivers pure performance built for high volume, professional ID card printing.
Secure Printing
The Evolis Primacy 2 Double Sided ID Card Printer includes built-in security features such as digital erasing as standard. Optional UV printing for anti-counterfeit protection and Kineclipse® masking technology help protect sensitive cardholder data in secure environments.
Fast Print Speeds
Designed for high-volume ID card printing, the Evolis Primacy 2 can produce up to 170 double-sided cards per hour and up to 1,000 single-sided monochrome cards per hour, depending on ribbon type and print mode selected.
Print Quality
Sharp text, clear logos and detailed images, with standard 300 × 300 dpi printing and enhanced modes up to 300 × 600 dpi in colour or 300 × 1200 dpi in monochrome. Enhanced modes are unavailable with Kineclipse.
Rewrite Technology
The Evolis Primacy 2 supports rewrite technology as standard, allowing you to print, erase and reprint the same rewritable card multiple times. This is ideal for temporary visitor badges and reduces card waste in high-traffic environments.
Who Is the Evolis Primacy 2 Double Sided ID Card Printer Best For?
The Evolis Primacy 2 Double-Sided is best suited to organisations issuing cards regularly and needing information printed on both sides. It is particularly useful for teams that want to reduce manual handling during batch printing.
Typical users include:
- Schools and colleges printing student cards with safeguarding or policy details on the reverse
- Corporate teams issuing staff ID cards with barcodes or access information
- Healthcare providers producing compliant ID badges
- Membership organisations requiring expiry dates or terms printed on the back
- Secure environments where reverse-side data is essential
If you regularly print double-sided cards, the Primacy 2 Double Sided model improves efficiency and reduces handling time compared to manually flipping cards on a single-sided printer.

Evolis Primacy 2 Double Sided – Frequently Asked Questions
Quick, plain-English answers to help you choose the right setup for double-sided ID card printing.
Performance, speed & card types
For teams printing cards regularly.
Is the Evolis Primacy 2 good for high-volume printing?
Yes. The Evolis Primacy 2 is designed for regular medium- to high-volume card production. Its automatic double-sided printing reduces manual handling when issuing staff ID cards, student badges and membership cards. The right setup depends on your batch sizes, printing frequency and any encoding or lamination requirements.
How fast does the Evolis Primacy 2 Double Sided print?
The Primacy 2 prints up to 170 double-sided colour cards per hour using YMCKO-K ribbon, with colour on the front and black printing on the reverse. It also prints up to 1,000 single-sided monochrome cards per hour. Actual speed depends on the ribbon, artwork, print settings and any additional encoding operations.
What’s the difference between the Primacy 2 single-sided and double-sided printer?
The single-sided Primacy 2 prints one side automatically; you can turn and reinsert the card manually to print the reverse. It also supports an optional RFID activation key for automatic double-sided printing.
The Primacy 2 Double Sided already includes automatic double-sided printing, so no additional duplex activation key is needed. It saves handling time when you regularly print barcodes, expiry dates, policies or contact details on the reverse.
What card types can the Evolis Primacy 2 print on?
The Primacy 2 supports compatible PVC, composite PVC and specialist rewritable cards. Evolis also lists PET cards for black monochrome printing and paper cards for monochrome printing with a BlackFLEX ribbon.
Card material and ribbon must be matched correctly. If you use RFID or smart cards, contact us to check the card surface, chip position and suitable print area. Printing a design onto a smart card does not encode its chip; encoding requires a suitable optional encoder and compatible software.

Software, compatibility & upgrades
Making sure it fits your workflow.
What software is included with the Evolis Primacy 2?

If you need additional features, choose the edition that suits your database and printing requirements. Browse our ID card software or ask us for advice.
Is the Evolis Primacy 2 compatible with Mac?
Yes. Evolis provides macOS printer support, and ID-ALL is available for Windows and macOS. Compatibility depends on your operating system version and any specialist features you need. Contact us before ordering if you use a Mac so we can confirm the right software and printer setup.
What is the difference between Evolis Primacy 1 and Primacy 2?
Primacy 2 is the newer generation, with features including rewritable-card printing, enhanced resolution modes and an optional 200-card feeder. Available security options include Kineclipse ribbon masking and an internal scanner. Features depend on the configuration, so check which options are included when comparing printers.
